Have you ever had a 3D eye scan? We use Ocular Coherence Tomography, also known as an OCT scan, to take a really detailed look at the back of your eyes and check for potential problems. This test is painless, non-invasive, and could save your sight.

What Is an OCT Eye Scan?

This advanced eye scan is similar to an ultrasound, except instead of using sound waves to produce a picture, it uses light. The scan produces an incredibly detailed, 3D image of the back of your eye and the layers beneath the surface of your retina within minutes. This enables our optometrist to view exactly what’s going on inside your eye and look for any early signs of eye diseases. Once the scan is complete, you will be able to view the scan on a screen, and our optometrist will go over the findings with you so you are aware if there is any cause for concern.

The scanning machine also means there is adequate space between you and the optometrist, allowing them to examine the back of your eyes from a safe distance whilst also wearing the necessary PPE.

A 3D eye scan means that it’s much easier for our optometrist to detect signs of macular degeneration and other serious conditions. Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of vision loss in people aged over 60. The early signs aren’t always easy to spot, though. By having a scan each time you come for an eye exam, we can spot and track any changes to your retina. There are other eye conditions that can be detected using an OCT scan too, so don’t wait until you’re 60 before booking one with your eye examination! For many conditions, early detection means the best chance of saving your vision.
